Acceptable Use & Data Sources
Last updated October 13, 2026
In short: use DopplerNav for yourself, as it was built to be used. Do not scrape it, resell what it shows, break its protections, or use it to watch or harass people. Most of the data here belongs to government agencies and other providers, and you are subject to their terms for it.
1. Acceptable use
This policy is part of the Terms of Use. When you use the Service you agree not to:
- Break the law or use the Service to help anyone else do so.
- Scrape or bulk-collect data, camera frames or tiles, or use unauthorized automation. Built-in export and explicitly configured integrations are permitted within their displayed limits. Do not build a copy or mirror of the Service.
- Resell, sublicense or redistribute the Service or provider media beyond the permissions supplied by us and the source owner. Built-in radar GIF export and sharing of your own annotations are allowed with the included attribution. Those tools do not grant recording or redistribution rights to camera video or other third-party media.
- Share your account, sell or transfer it, or sign in as someone else.
- Get around protections: do not bypass or probe sign-in, rate limits, access controls or the camera and data proxies; do not look for or exploit security weaknesses (please report them to us instead); and do not interfere with or overload the Service or the sources it relies on.
- Watch or track people. Traffic cameras and aircraft data are provided for situational awareness of the weather and roads. Do not use them to identify, follow, stalk, harass or surveil any person, vehicle or aircraft, or to read licence plates or faces.
- Pass DopplerNav off as official. Do not present its output, or any screenshot of it, as an official warning or as coming from the National Weather Service, an agency or us.
- Endanger others: do not use the Service in a way that interferes with emergency response, road safety or the people working to help in a disaster.
- Upload or transmit anything harmful, including malware, or impersonate any person or organisation.
- Abuse community features: do not post harassment, private personal information, threats, exploitation, fabricated emergency reports or material you lack permission to share. Do not falsify location to bypass eligibility. Report or block abuse; moderators can remove content or restrict participation. Community reports remain unverified unless clearly identified otherwise.
- Reverse engineer the Service, except as the law allows regardless of this clause. The Service's software, apart from third-party and open-source components that carry their own licences, is ours.
We may rate-limit, block or suspend access, and remove accounts, to enforce this policy or to protect the Service. Where we must, we will cooperate with the agencies and providers whose data we use if they raise a concern about your use.
2. Where the data comes from
DopplerNav displays provider data and separately labeled derived estimates, such as experimental cell-awareness polygons. Each source remains subject to its publisher's terms. Built-in exports retain attribution; they do not expand provider permissions or imply endorsement. No agency logos are used.
Weather and radar
- National Weather Service, NOAA (including NEXRAD Level 2, MRMS, HRRR, GOES, nowCoast, NCEP services and the Damage Assessment Toolkit) and the Storm Prediction Center, which are US Government works.
- The Iowa Environmental Mesonet (Iowa State University) for radar tiles, satellite imagery and storm reports.
- RainViewer, for radar imagery where used.
- Aviation Weather Center (NOAA) for surface observations; Open-Meteo.com for surface conditions (data under CC BY 4.0).
- The US Geological Survey for earthquake data.
Maps, places and aircraft
- Base maps from OpenFreeMap, with data © OpenStreetMap contributors (Open Database Licence, ODbL), and satellite imagery from Esri, whose attribution is shown on the map under Esri's terms.
- Place names from the US Census Bureau Gazetteer Files (public domain); street and address search from Photon (komoot), using © OpenStreetMap contributors data.
- Aircraft positions and history from adsb.lol, available under the ODbL.
Cameras and road events
Camera frames and video are published by the agencies that operate the cameras, including: TxDOT and DriveTexas; the Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Indiana, Missouri, Colorado, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Massachusetts departments of transportation (Massachusetts' video through TrafficLand); the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (CHART); the Delaware Department of Transportation; Caltrans; the Ontario Ministry of Transportation; Transport for NSW; the City of Calgary; the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure; and Transport for London. Frames are passed on unmodified; live video plays from the agency's own servers. These images remain subject to each agency's terms.
- Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont camera data is provided by MaineDOT, NHDOT and VTrans through the New England Compass developer portal, under its terms, and is not endorsed by those agencies.
- Kentucky camera data is published by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet under Creative Commons Zero (CC0).
- Road closures and incidents come from the Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and Indiana departments of transportation through their 511 sites, and are shown as those agencies publish them.
Software
Parts of DopplerNav's camera integration are adapted from God's Eye View (MIT licence, © 2026 Bilawal Sidhu). The Service also uses open-source libraries such as MapLibre GL JS, CesiumJS and hls.js under their own licences.
3. Concerns, removals and copyright
If you operate or own data shown here and want it changed, attributed differently or removed, or if you believe something in the Service infringes your rights, email support@dopplernav.com with enough detail to find it. We will look at it promptly and act where it is warranted. If you see use of the Service that breaks this policy, tell us at the same address.
